Dedication Ceremony Celebrates New, Environmentally-Sound Rain Garden
Marianjoy donors and friends gathered on July 8 to celebrate the dedication of the new Marianjoy Rain Garden, a 10,400-square foot garden that is adjacent to the new Aquatic Therapy and Fitness Center on the Wheaton Campus.
Also unveiled was the Legacy Path, a walkway with brick pavers engraved with messages from donors, associates, volunteers, former patients and their families. Brick paver donations contributed nearly $26,000 to the final fundraising push to complete the Legacy Project, a $7.5 million campaign to enhance the Outpatient Pavilion.
The environmentally-sound rain garden replaces an outdated retention pond on the west side of the campus. Featuring hundreds of native prairie plantings, an engineered mix of soils and a water collection system, the garden naturally filters rainwater and slows water runoff while enhancing the holistic, healing setting of the Marianjoy campus.
